Traveling…

Serenity scene.

A good friend asked me to go on a trip with her. So, naturally, I said yes.

She is a fellow artist, although she explores in different media than I. She paints with watercolor, and she quilts. This is a quilting and textiles tour to Japan.

I have never quilted.

Coincidentally, there was just a woven Shibori class led by Mary Kircher at the Fiber Arts Center in Durham. and in the spring there will be a Sabiko Ori workshop.

The tour led by OkanArts.com will have to home-bases: Tokyo and Kyoto. From there we will explore. We’ll see and try tamari, sabiko ori, shibori, indigo dying, silk weaving and dying….we’ll see shrines and temples and have a taste of local culture.

I’m pretty stoked, for sure!

When I come back I’ll be sure to share pictures and some of what I experienced along the way. And I plan to sell me Schacht Mighty Wolf 8 harness loom, so I can purchase a Louet loom instead.
